Author Visits
I offer a range of author visits which can include readings, craft activities, talks, creative writing. These are tailored to the individual’s needs, audience and venue. In the past, I have done events for Derbyshire Literary Festival, community centres, for the WI, and last year I did a stint at the Y Not? Festival. Prices vary according to the locality, size of audience, resources needed and the time slot you’d like me to fill. If you have any questions, please contact me below. School Visits
School visits can range from half-day sessions to a full-day session. Sometimes, I am asked to work with all year groups, and sometimes specific year groups. If I do a whole school full day visit, I tend to work with each year group for around an hour, doing readings, talking about being an author, and setting up writing and craft activities that children can then continue working on. I’ve worked predominantly with primary and junior school children – as this is the age group I have written for – but I also do creative writing and art workshops for secondary schools (see below).
Creative Workshops
These workshops are aimed more at secondary school age children, and adults. As a qualified FE English teacher (I work as a part-time tutor for Derbyshire County Council) and freelance writer and artist, I gear these workshops around inspiring people to write, showing them how they can harness their own creativity and explore their imaginations. Workshops can be specifically geared to writing a particular genre, eg. poetry or flash fiction, or they can be combined with elements such as music and art – these workshops are suitable for all, and are very well suited to learners with diverse needs and who may be on the neurodiverse spectrum, as they work on a multi-sensory approach.
